Aesthetic Laser Purchase Budget: A Canadian Clinic Checklist

Build a practical budget for your clinic's next laser device, including setup, ongoing costs and financing questions to ask before you commit.

A laser quote gives your clinic a starting price, not a complete opening budget. Before choosing a payment plan, separate the device purchase from the cash you need to install it, train your team and operate while bookings build.

This checklist is for Canadian clinic owners reviewing a laser or light device, including a purchase from True North Aesthetic Supply. It is a planning tool, not a device recommendation or a financing offer.

1. Ask for a quote you can actually compare

Record the exact model, configuration, included accessories, currency and quote expiry date. Ask the supplier to separate taxes, shipping, installation, education and optional add-ons. A low base price is difficult to compare with an all-in package until both quotes describe the same purchase.

Keep unanswered items in a separate column marked “to confirm.” Do not treat a blank delivery or service line as a zero-dollar cost.

2. Build three budget buckets

  • Purchase: device, accessories and any initial deposit.
  • Launch: delivery, room preparation, onboarding, staff time and insurance changes.
  • Ongoing: payments, consumables, service arrangements, software and replacement parts where applicable.

BDC recommends considering the complete cost of owning equipment, not only its purchase price. Its equipment purchase planning guide is a useful starting framework. The clinic-specific buckets above are our application of that principle.

3. Test a slower start

Create a month-by-month plan with conservative bookings. For an illustration only, suppose a clinic expects $4,000 in additional monthly collections and $1,600 in related operating costs before a proposed $900 equipment payment. The remaining $1,500 is not profit: existing overhead, taxes and other obligations still need to be covered. If collections are only $2,500, that same simplified calculation leaves nothing before those obligations.

These are invented planning figures, not typical prices or revenue forecasts. Use your own figures and review them with your accountant.

4. Confirm the device, not just the financing

Where a device requires a Canadian medical device licence, verify the exact model and manufacturer. Health Canada maintains MDALL for licensed Class II, III and IV devices. A financing decision does not establish clinical suitability or regulatory compliance.

5. Bring the full budget to your financing conversation

Ask which quoted costs are eligible, what must be paid upfront and when payments start. Keep funds available for expenses that are not covered. With your supplier quote ready, review the True North financing page to estimate a payment and contact Mehmi Financial Group.
