A TikTok Shop seller can face a cash shortage while orders are rising. Stock, packaging, fulfilment and marketing may need payment before the marketplace releases the related sales proceeds. Funding can address part of that timing gap, but the right structure depends on whether the business needs earlier access to completed sales or money to finance future growth.

Those are different requirements. An advance against shipped sales should not be treated as an unrestricted lump sum available before any orders exist.

What funding route does TikTok Shop describe for UK sellers?

TikTok Shop’s UK Capital guidance identifies Storfund as a partner and describes an invitation-based programme. Its Daily Advance product provides earlier access to money from sales already made, with eligibility and approval determined by the funding partner. An invitation does not guarantee approval. Check the current Capital area in the seller account and the terms issued to the legal business. Do not assume another country’s programme, a social-media advertisement or an old invitation applies to your UK shop.

Understand Daily Advance versus funding future stock

Storfund describes advancing up to 80% of net shipped sales, with the remainder released when TikTok Shop pays out, less the fee. Its definition of net sales deducts TikTok Shop fees and refunds from gross sales. Source: Storfund’s TikTok Shop explanation.

That mechanism is tied to sales and shipment activity. It may help shorten the time between dispatching orders and receiving usable cash, but it is different from financing a supplier order before those sales have happened.

Map the need precisely. If the business has shipped orders awaiting payout, earlier access to those proceeds addresses a timing issue. If it needs to buy unproven stock for a future campaign, assess a separate working-capital requirement and the risk that the stock does not sell as expected.

Calculate the amount actually available

Using a simplified illustration, assume £10,000 of net shipped sales and an 80% advance. The initial amount would be £8,000. The remaining £2,000 would be subject to the applicable fee and any agreement adjustments when settlement occurs.

This does not mean the seller has earned £18,000 by receiving an £8,000 advance and later a £10,000 marketplace payout. The funding and settlement relate to the same underlying sales and must be reconciled accordingly.

The example is arithmetic, not an individual offer. The eligible sales, advance percentage, timing and adjustments depend on the actual agreement.

Keep the funding statement and marketplace settlement report together so the business can explain the final amount received for each funded period.

Ask for a complete fee calculation

Request a worked calculation using your own expected sales and payout timing. Establish the fee base, the period over which the fee applies, when it is deducted and whether other charges or adjustments can affect the outcome.

Do not compare a small headline percentage with a loan’s annual rate without understanding those differences. A charge associated with each funding period and a one-off fee on a lump sum are not automatically comparable.

Storfund says it can provide a simulation using a seller’s historical data. Ask for the assumptions and review both a normal period and one with slower settlement or higher returns. Source: Storfund pricing explanation for TikTok Shop.

Avoid assuming that faster cash guarantees higher profit. The commercial benefit must exceed the funding cost and any extra cost of fulfilling additional orders.

Model the margin after selling costs

A high order count can hide a weak contribution per sale. Include product cost, shipping, packaging, platform charges, creator or affiliate costs where applicable, advertising and returns.

For a hypothetical £30 sale, assume £10 product cost, £4 fulfilment and packaging, £3 platform and selling charges, and £5 marketing or affiliate cost. That leaves £8 before refunds, overheads, tax and funding cost.

These are invented amounts, not TikTok fee rates. Replace every assumption with the business’s actual costs. If the product must be discounted or a customer returns it, the cash contribution changes.

Evaluate the benefit of receiving the money earlier against that remaining contribution. Financing a low-margin sale more quickly does not turn it into a high-margin sale.

Plan for a viral spike and the quieter period afterwards

A successful video can create a short burst of demand. Do not assume the same sales level will continue for the full funding period or supplier order cycle.

Prepare at least three cases: normal demand, a temporary spike and a weaker period after the campaign. Include how quickly the supplier can replenish stock and whether the business can fulfil the additional orders without excessive overtime or expedited shipping.

If the supplier requires a minimum order, model unsold inventory. If the product is seasonal, include markdowns after the selling window. A stock purchase justified by one exceptional week can create a cash problem months later.

Keep the funding amount linked to the peak cash need and a realistic contingency. Avoid using every available pound simply because demand is briefly strong.

Include returns, disputes and account interruptions

Ask the provider how refunds, cancellations and disputed transactions affect eligibility, advances and later settlements. Understand what happens if previously funded sales are reversed.

Do not forecast every order as permanently completed revenue. Use the shop’s return history and the characteristics of the product range. Clothing, fragile goods and products with complex sizing or suitability questions may require different assumptions within your own records.

Also test a temporary interruption to sales or payouts. The purpose is to identify how wages, storage, suppliers and existing finance would be paid if expected cash arrives later than planned.

Read the agreement for notification requirements and what happens if the shop closes, changes ownership or changes its settlement arrangement. Obtain clarification before relying on an assumption about flexibility.

Prepare records beyond the headline sales dashboard

A useful assessment pack can include seller statements, settlement records, business bank statements, stock purchase invoices, existing finance and a summary of margins and returns. Follow the provider’s specific requirements.

Separate TikTok Shop receipts from sales through your own website or another marketplace. If an order-management system includes all channels, reconcile it to avoid counting the same sale more than once.

Identify the legal business that owns the shop and receives payouts. If trading history belongs partly to a previous owner or entity, explain the dates rather than presenting the history as uninterrupted activity by the current applicant.

Keep original reports intact and provide a separate explanation for unusual spikes, refunds or settlement differences.

Compare funding structures for the actual purpose

Earlier access to shipped-sales proceeds can be compared with the cost of waiting, supplier credit where available and other working-capital options. A larger stock build or equipment investment may require a different finance proposal.

Compare net usable cash, total cost, timing, guarantees, security and any minimum or final payment requirements. Include the effect on future payouts and the treatment of existing finance.

Review the guarantee questions in our guide, Fast Business Loans Without a Personal Guarantee UK.

If a proposal settles another balance first, calculate the new cash released after that settlement. A headline facility amount can be larger than the amount available for the next stock order.

Approval and future renewals are not guaranteed. The plan should work without depending on an unconfirmed additional offer.

Frequently asked questions

Is TikTok Shop Capital automatically available to every UK seller?

No. The official UK guidance describes partner assessment and invitation-based access. Check the current account and provider terms.

Is Daily Advance the same as a lump-sum loan for future stock?

No. The described product advances money against sales already made and shipped. A supplier purchase before those sales may involve a different funding need.

Should I borrow based on my best sales week?

Use representative trading history and test a quieter case. A temporary campaign peak may not support the same obligation over a longer period.

What should I ask about cost?

Ask for a complete worked example showing the fee base, timing, deductions and final proceeds using your own sales assumptions.
