Build a commercial boat purchase budget around the quote, operating costs and your business's cash flow.

Define the work the vessel must do

A commercial boat budget starts with the operation, not a monthly payment. Write down the intended work, expected operating schedule and what the vessel needs to carry. Discuss these requirements with Cook's Marine and qualified marine professionals so the proposed build is suitable for your business. This guide concerns business purchases, not personal pleasure craft.

Separate the build price from the operating budget

Ask for a written proposal identifying the hull, propulsion, outfitting and other equipment included. Confirm whether delivery and applicable taxes appear in the total. Keep insurance, moorage, fuel and maintenance in a separate operating budget. These ongoing costs still affect affordability even if they are not part of the purchase being financed.

Identify uncertain costs early

List any equipment or services that have not yet been quoted. Ask who is responsible for arranging any required technical review, inspections or approvals, and obtain appropriate professional guidance. Do not treat an allowance as a fixed price. Keep a record of exclusions and the process for approving changes during the build.

Plan around actual business receipts

Compare the proposed payment commitment with the business's existing expenses and expected receipts. Distinguish booked work from potential future contracts. Consider how a delayed delivery or quieter season would affect cash flow. Avoid relying on an assumption that the new vessel will immediately produce enough revenue to meet every payment.

Prepare the financing request

Send Mehmi Financial Group the current supplier quote, requested amount and basic business information. Explain the commercial use and your planned contribution. Ask which quoted costs may qualify and which would remain payable separately. Review any offer's payment schedule, total repayment, fees and conditions before accepting. A financing application does not reserve a build slot or guarantee funding.
