Quick Answer
Farm tractor financing can be considered for new or used tractors when the business, equipment and seller meet lender requirements. Mehmi Financial Group is an equipment finance and leasing brokerage. Provide the tractor quote, hours, intended work and attachment list so the purchase can be assessed against your farm's cash flow.
Mehmi reviews requests from businesses in Canada and eligible U.S. markets, subject to lender and jurisdiction availability. Send your equipment quote or call 833-863-4644.
Choose the tractor for the implements and workload
A loader tractor feeding livestock all winter has different demands from a field tractor working intensively during seeding. Identify the jobs, expected annual hours, existing implements and operator requirements before setting a purchase budget. Engine horsepower alone does not confirm that the tractor can lift, drive or control the equipment you intend to use.
Have the dealer check PTO speed and shaft, hitch and drawbar requirements, hydraulic flow and outlets, and implement controls. Include tire configuration, ballast, loading attachments and any guidance hardware in the written quote. For a specific row-crop machine, see the John Deere 8R 340 or Case IH Magnum 340 purchase guides.
Buying used from a dealer, farmer or auction
Request the model, year, serial number, hour reading, service invoices and details of major repairs. A qualified inspection should assess the engine, transmission, hydraulic performance, axles, steering, PTO and hitch. Compare tire condition and remaining wear with the jobs ahead. Ask whether a replacement display or meter affects the reported hours.
A dealer's inspection and warranty need a written scope. In a private sale, establish ownership and any outstanding finance before arranging payment. An auction can add a buyer premium, taxes, loading charges and a short removal deadline. Ask about lender and seller acceptance before a non-refundable deposit or unconditional bid.
Separate the tractor from the attachment package
Itemize the loader, bucket, forks, weights, duals, receivers and displays. State which implements are already owned and which are being purchased. Obtain confirmation of technology licences, subscriptions and transfer costs; an antenna in a photograph does not establish that guidance will work in your operation.
Illustrative farm budget: a hypothetical CAD $110,000 tractor, CAD $14,000 of attachments and CAD $6,000 of delivery and initial service total CAD $130,000 before tax and fees. A sample CAD $30,000 contribution leaves CAD $100,000 to discuss if all items qualify. These are planning inputs, not tractor prices or a required contribution. Retain cash for fuel, repairs and the next input bills.
Compare payments with the timing of farm receipts
Show crop, livestock or custom-work income month by month alongside operating costs and existing debt. Ask whether the proposed lender offers a schedule suited to that pattern; seasonal or deferred payments are not automatic. Check when the first payment falls due even if the tractor will not work immediately.
FCC's buy-or-lease guide highlights ownership, maintenance, support and contract costs as considerations. Compare an equipment loan with an equipment lease using total payable, fees, early payout and the final purchase or return obligation.

Tractor equipment financing market context
Quick answer: Tractor financing is generally reviewed using the purchase price, year, hours and condition, seller, expected useful life, seasonal cash flow, credit profile and requested term. New and used farm equipment may be considered, but final structure depends on the asset, transaction, lender and jurisdiction.
In ELFA’s 2025 Survey of Equipment Finance Activity, agricultural equipment represented 17.9% of 2024 annual new business volume by equipment type among respondents, the largest individual equipment category reported in the detailed table. See the ELFA Survey of Equipment Finance Activity for the underlying U.S. industry data.
ELFA’s July 2026 CapEx Finance Index reported $14.3 billion in seasonally adjusted new business volume among surveyed member companies, with year-to-date volume 16.8% above the same period in 2025. In Canada, Statistics Canada reported 2026 machinery and equipment capital-spending intentions of about C$127.2 billion. Tractor Financing Questions
Can a used tractor bought from another farmer be reviewed?
Yes, provide the proposed seller, serial number, ownership information and sale terms. Arrange condition evidence and disclose existing finance. The lender must accept the seller and transaction before you rely on funding.
Can I request annual or seasonal tractor payments?
Explain when the farm receives cash and when input costs and other payments are due. Ask which schedules are available for your application and confirm the agreed dates in writing. A seasonal business does not automatically qualify for seasonal terms.
Are a loader and front attachments included automatically?
No. List every attachment and its price, condition and compatibility. Confirm which items the proposed lender accepts and whether installation or separately bought implements need another arrangement.
Is there a universal maximum tractor age or hour limit?
No limit is promised here. Lenders assess equipment differently, alongside condition, support, value and the proposed term. Supply verified hours and service history rather than assuming an older tractor is accepted or excluded.
What if I am buying my first farm tractor?
Describe the farm operation, relevant experience, planned work and available cash. Include the implement and operating budget, especially for a new business. Owning land or finding a suitable tractor does not by itself establish approval.
How should dealer financing be compared with a brokerage proposal?
Request the cash price and the price attached to each financing offer, identifying any discount that changes with the payment option. Compare the same tractor and included equipment using cash due upfront, all scheduled payments, fees and final obligations. FCC’s buy-or-lease discussion highlights maintenance, repairs and lease conditions alongside cash flow. A low advertised rate alone does not establish the lower total cost. Mehmi is an independent brokerage, not the manufacturer’s finance program.
What should a tractor’s wheel and tire setup contribute to the acquisition review?
Have the supplier assess the actual tasks and existing implements, then identify the fitted tires, wheels, duals and other included equipment. Obtain separate prices for changes needed before use and record the condition of used components. Do not assume two tractors with the same engine rating carry the same ready-to-work cost. Compare those costs and the expected maintenance reserve before committing the full available cash to a down payment.
Can a tractor be purchased for one farm entity and used by another?
Disclose the proposed owner, borrower, operator and equipment locations at the start. Ask the lender and insurer what documentation and permissions are needed for the arrangement, including any rental or shared-use agreement. Establish how costs and receipts will appear in the borrowing business’s forecast. Financing does not automatically authorize transfers of ownership or unrestricted third-party use. Send Mehmi the tractor quote and entity structure for review in Canada or an eligible U.S. market.
