What is a Securitization?

Securitization is the process of converting assets like loans or receivables into securities that can be sold to investors.

For example, an equipment finance company pools $50 million in small business equipment loans into a securitization trust, then issues asset-backed notes to institutional investors. The company receives upfront cash to deploy into new loans while investors receive monthly interest payments from the underlying loan portfolio.
