Farming & Agriculture financing.

Equip for the season.
Plan beyond the harvest.

Explore financing for farm machinery, agricultural processing equipment and seasonal operating needs. Mehmi helps farms and agribusinesses assess options against their production and collection cycles.

FINANCING THAT FITS THE OPERATION

Match the investment to how your farm earns.

A combine, irrigation system and seasonal input purchase create different demands on cash. Machinery may work across many seasons, while input costs need to be recovered through the current production cycle.

Map the dates cash is spent and when crop, livestock or service revenue is expected. Then test that forecast against lower yields, changing prices or delayed delivery. Request a payment schedule you can assess against those scenarios rather than assuming seasonal terms are automatic.

START WITH THE BUSINESS NEED

What needs to move forward?

Identify the constraint first. The right discussion starts with what you need to buy, when cash leaves the business and how it returns.

01 / MACHINERY

Invest in dependable capacity.

Assess the role of the machine across the whole operation.

  • Compare expected hours with purchase and maintenance cost.
  • Check compatibility with implements and existing equipment.
  • Include transport and commissioning in the request.

02 / SEASONAL COSTS

Plan inputs before revenue is collected.

Cash may leave the business well before a crop or product is sold.

  • Forecast seed, feed, fertilizer, fuel and labour needs.
  • Separate committed sales from estimates.
  • Keep a buffer for delays and unexpected operating costs.

03 / PROCESSING

Move from output to saleable product.

Handling and storage can be as important as field capacity.

  • Review bottlenecks in sorting, packing or cooling.
  • Budget for utility connections and installation.
  • Assess the equipment against the volume you can sell.

ASSETS ACROSS THE OPERATION

Equipment across your operation.

Share the equipment make, model, age, price and location. Eligibility depends on the asset, seller, condition and proposed transaction.

Field & livestock equipment

  • Tractors and combine harvesters
  • Seed drills, planters and sprayers
  • Balers and hay equipment
  • Feed mixers and milking equipment

Handling & processing

  • Grain augers and conveyors
  • Irrigation systems and pumps
  • Cold storage and packing lines
  • Grain and livestock trailers

Examples include a John Deere tractor, Case IH combine or New Holland baler. These are equipment examples, not automatic eligibility or manufacturer partnerships.

COMPARE THE PURPOSE, THEN THE TERMS

Which financing option fits your next move?

Use this as a starting point for discussion. Products can overlap, and availability depends on your business and location.

ILLUSTRATIVE PLANNING EXAMPLE

Inputs are paid before the harvest is sold.

A grower purchases inputs, prepares equipment and pays labour before receiving sales proceeds. A machinery upgrade introduces a separate repayment commitment that continues beyond the growing season.

Prepare a month-by-month cash forecast with the expected sales dates. Compare the proposed payments with a lower-revenue scenario and a later collection date, and show how existing machinery debt is serviced.

This is a hypothetical scenario, not a Mehmi client result or financing offer.

FOLLOW THE CASH

1

Prepare & plant

Machinery preparation and seasonal inputs consume cash.

2

Grow & harvest

Operating costs continue before the product is sold.

3

Deliver & collect

Sales receipts support the next cycle and repayments.

Assess the full season, including months with limited receipts.

A CLEARER APPLICATION

What will your financing review consider?

Review may consider operating history, farm cash flow, existing obligations and the machinery or project being financed. Production forecasts should explain the assumptions behind expected revenue. For used equipment, condition, maintenance and market value may also matter.

  • Explain the amount, purpose and intended timing.
  • Show how payments fit your current and forecast cash flow.
  • Disclose existing financing, liens and guarantees.
  • Identify your province or state, currency and asset location.

A newer business may need additional evidence of experience, owner investment or contracted demand. No single factor guarantees an approval.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Farming & Agriculture financing FAQs.

Are seasonal payments available?

Ask whether a structure can accommodate your revenue pattern. Availability depends on the proposal. Seasonal or deferred payments can change payment timing without reducing total cost; confirm interest accrual, fees and the final obligation.

Can auction or private-sale farm equipment be considered?

These purchases can be reviewed. Supply the auction listing or agreement, equipment identification, condition and payment deadline. Inspection and title checks may be needed, so confirm financing conditions before bidding or paying a deposit.

Can financing cover seed, feed or fertilizer?

Describe the input purchase and the cash cycle it supports. Operating financing may be more relevant than an equipment loan for consumable inputs. Eligibility, permitted use and repayment depend on the proposed facility.

Can I apply for more than one business need?

Yes. Describe equipment purchases and operating costs separately, even if they form part of the same project. Each may require different documentation, security and repayment arrangements. Review the combined cash commitment before agreeing to multiple facilities.

Can I keep my existing business financing?

Possibly, but the agreements must work together. Existing security interests, borrowing restrictions and required consents may affect a new arrangement. Share current balances and agreements early, and do not assume the same asset can support another facility without review.

What affects the amount and time required?

The amount and timing depend on the business, product, documentation, verification and completion of approval conditions. Identify any purchase or project deadlines early. An application or financing discussion is not a commitment to fund.
