What is a General Partnership?

A general partnership is a business established by two or more owners. It is the default business structure for multiple owners the same way that a sole proprietorship is the default for solo entrepreneurs.

For example, two accountants form a general partnership to operate a bookkeeping practice, sharing profits equally and both being personally liable for the firm's debts — meaning a client lawsuit could put both partners' personal assets at risk.
