What is Receivership?

A process where a receiver is appointed to take control of a company’s assets to repay creditors, often during enforcement of secured debt.

For example, after default on a secured loan, the lender seeks a receiver to sell equipment and apply proceeds to the debt.

Why it matters: It means the owners have lost control of the business; a court-appointed receiver takes over to liquidate assets and pay secured creditors.
